Cycling from Alaska to Argentina

550. Chris Mark

Chris Mark has just finished an epic 20,000 mile cycle from Alaska to Argentina in memory of his sister, Laura, who died in a tragic cycling accident in 2004.

His seven month journey took him through some of the most challenging terrain imaginable. Chris has raised over £23,000 for The Laura Hulbert Fund for Wishes4Kids, supporting a charity close to his sister’s heart who grant wishes for children facing life-limiting or terminal illnesses in their home county of Leicestershire.

Prime Minister David Cameron said:

“I’m pleased to recognise Chris’s incredible achievement which saw him contend with extreme temperatures, punishing weather conditions and long periods of isolation. His seven month cycling challenge was a remarkable feat of endurance and a moving tribute to his sister Laura.  I’m proud to name him the UK’s 550th Point of Light.”

Chris said:

“It is a huge honour to receive this award, although even though my name is on it, it belongs to all family, friends and kind hearted locals along the way who supported and followed the journey, helped me whenever I was in need and contributed to this cause.”

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community.
