Rebuilding Lives UK

2050. Naima Ben-Moussa

Naima Ben-Moussa, from Derbyshire, is a plasterer providing home repairs for people who have experienced domestic violence.

Naima is herself the survivor of abuse, and began offering her services for free after visiting the home of a young mother who had faced abuse for over 10 years and whose partner had punched holes into the walls. Following a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign to enable Naima to continue providing her plastering services for free for people whose homes have been damaged by abusers Naima set up ‘Rebuilding Lives UK’ as a registered charity in 2021.  The charity also provides counselling support, instals security measures such as CCTV cameras and reinforced doors, and helps survivors find careers in construction.

Building on the multidisciplinary support that ‘Rebuilding Lives UK’ offers, Naima is looking to include other projects to aid recovery, focusing on well-being and mindfulness as well as trauma healing workshops and DIY sessions.

Naima said:

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive the Points of Light Award, as it not only validates my personal commitment to supporting survivors of domestic abuse but also serves as a reminder that every effort, no matter how small, can make a significant impact in someone’s life.

“Winning the Points of Light award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire ‘Rebuilding Lives UK’ team. This recognition highlights the importance of our mission to empower survivors of domestic abuse and encourages us to continue striving for a world where everyone can live free from fear and violence.

“It is a powerful reminder that our efforts in advocating for survivors of domestic abuse are being recognized and valued. This award not only strengthens our resolve to continue our work but also helps raise awareness about the critical need for emotional support, home maintenance, security and repair for those on the road to recovery.”
