NHS Oldest Volunteer

1930. Beryl Carr

Beryl Carr, from London, aged 100, is the NHS’s oldest volunteer.

Beryl Carr

Beryl started volunteering at Ealing Hospital’s League of Friends café after moving back to London when she was widowed in 2003 as a way of meeting new people. Since then, she has served teas, coffees and snacks to thousands of hospital patients and visitors, and, after a period of shielding due to the pandemic, continues to volunteer once a month.

Beryl said:

“Oh my goodness, I don’t believe it!”
