500 Steps for the NHS

1422. Mike Biggar

Mike Biggar, from Wiltshire, is a former Scotland Rugby player who fundraised over £75,000 for NHS Charities Together, by walking 500 steps in 30 days.

10 Downing Street

Mike was nearly killed in a horrific car crash in 1992 which left him with severe brain damage and limited mobility. While he initially was able to slowly re-learn how to walk and talk, subsequent falls and physical and mental deterioration has left Mike wheelchair-bound over the past decade. Mike was inspired, however, by the fundraising walk of Captain Sir Tom Moore to undertake his own challenge in support for the NHS, and in appreciation for all the health care workers who have been there for him during his recovery. Mike has completed his first 500 steps and is continuing to push on for his next 500.
