Virtual Pub Quiz

1372. Jay Flynn

Jay Flynn, from Lancashire, is the founder of the Virtual Pub Quiz, which today broke the world record for the biggest number of participants in an online quiz, and has simultaneously raised over £160,000 for NHS Charities.

Jay Flynn

Jay started the quiz as a way to lift the spirits of residents near his local pub, expecting 30 or 40 participants. Now he has hundreds of thousands taking part in a weekly event which pauses every Thursday at 8pm to Clap for Carers.

In a personal letter to Jay, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“As you host your latest Virtual Pub Quiz tonight, I wanted to contribute some questions of my own.

“Question One: Which quizmaster hosts the biggest online quiz in the world?

“Question Two: Which former pub landlord has now raised over £160,000 to support our wonderful NHS?

“Question Three: Which great Lancastrian has just won the UK’s 1372nd Point of Light award in recognition of his incredible efforts to bring people together from across the world?

“The answers are, of course, you!

“On behalf of the whole country, and thousands of your participants stretching right across the globe, thank you for lifting our spirits at this time.

“And I wish you – and everyone taking part online – another fantastic Virtual Pub Quiz tonight!”

Jay said:

“Something that started as a local quiz for local people in these strange times has received so much support and I am honoured to receive this award!”
