Vaccine Hunters Canada

Commonwealth Point of Light 194. Andrew Young

Andrew Young, representing Canada, aged 33, is a web developer and founder of ‘Vaccine Hunters Canada’, a website run by a network of over 100 volunteers who aggregate all available COVID-19 vaccine appointments in the country to help Canadians navigate the vaccination rollout.

Andrew was inspired to set up the platform after trying to find appointments for his parents in Ontario to receive their vaccinations, and coming across a similar concept in the USA. Quickly purchasing the website domain and building up a team of volunteers, the organisation has amassed over 427,000 followers on multiple social media platforms since March 2021 and connected 1.2 million people to appointments.

Andrew said:

“I am humbled and honoured to receive this award on behalf of ‘Vaccine Hunters Canada’ and our team of over 100 volunteers across Canada who come from all walks of life. In diversity there truly is power. Our hope is that the ‘Vaccine Hunters Canada’ story shows that there is good in this world, and proves that kindness inspires kindness. We invite anyone to reach out to us if they would like to bring our experience to their country.”
