Carrie Ann Booth, from Carlisle, is a science teacher and children’s party entertainer who gives free, fun online science lessons using household items to help families who are home schooling.

The award for Carrie Ann coincides with the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which aims to promote full and equal access to participation in science for women and girls.

In a personal letter to Carrie Ann, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“I know the sacrifices young people have made during this pandemic and so it is more important than ever that they receive all the support they need. Your free, fun online science lessons using household items have helped many families who are homeschooling.

“I am in awe at how working professionals in Britain have used their skills and talents to support the education of our children.”
