STEM with Mr N

2252. Stuart Naismith

Stuart Naismith, from North Lanarkshire, is a primary school teacher inspiring young people to get interested in STEM through his online ‘STEM with Mr N’ YouTube channel, and his presence across social media, gaining over 3 million views on TikTok.

Stuart produces and films all of the recordings himself, which he began during lockdown, with the aim of using affordable, accessible materials to engage pupils in science, technology, engineering and maths. As well as helping children, Stuart’s work supports parents and teachers in these subjects, with easy to replicate activities.

Starting with STEM experiments and activities, Stuart made other schools aware of the resources he was producing, making them free and available to use. The channel has since expanded to include robotics and coding, and was validated by the ‘Children’s University’ in 2023, where Stuart’s resources are promoted to their 70,000 members in the STEM education sector.

As well as his hundreds of videos demonstrating science experiments, Stuart records interviews with people from a range of backgrounds to showcase STEM careers. Stuart will be travelling to Finland later this year, where he  has been selected as one of the UK delegates presenting their science education work at ‘Science on Stage 2024’

Stuart said:

“There are lots of people throughout the country doing incredible community work and volunteering, so to be selected as a recipient of this award for my work promoting and providing free STEM education to my local community and beyond is a real honour.”
