RockAcad
1580. David Green
David Green, from London, is a musician and founder of ‘RockAcad’, an online music academy which offers free music lessons to key workers and their children during the pandemic.
David spent many years on the road touring the world as a drummer and supporting an array of international artists, including Foo Fighters, Oasis, Kylie Minogue and the 1975. He has been teaching music since 2004, making it his full-time career in 2017, and initially set up ‘RockAcad’ as an online drum teaching business. Following the Coronavirus outbreak, after seeing a huge increase in demand, David decided to expand into a multi-instrumental education service, providing one-to-one tuition for students around the world, and offering this pro bono to the families of key workers.
In a personal letter to David, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“Thank you for all that you are doing to bring the gift of music to key workers and their children.
“Among the many challenges we have faced in this battle against Coronavirus, few compare with the enormity of so rapidly reinventing education online.
“Through ‘RockAcad’ you are making music lessons free and available to those who are working so hard to keep our nation going.”
David said:
“Me and the RockAcad team are delighted to receive this award from the Prime Minister and Points of Light, which we accept on behalf of all the key workers out there. Thank you very much, this is a great honour. We look forward to continuing to help the community in any way we can.”
