Reverse Advent Calendar

1546. Jayden King

Jayden King, aged 6, from Scunthorpe, created a ‘reverse advent calendar’ for his local area collecting hundreds of donated personal care items and food to be given out to people in need over the Christmas period.

Jayden and his family started the calendar as a way of giving back to their community following the challenges it has faced from the Coronavirus pandemic, and to help ensure those who are vulnerable and have been self-isolating are given additional support over the festive season.

In a personal letter to Jayden, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“While millions of children are opening their chocolate advent calendars, you have created a reverse advent calendar to help hundreds of people.

“Your fantastic kindness will definitely see you on Father Christmas’s nice list!”

Jayden said:

“I am very proud to be helping so many people after a horrible year. I think it’s great that everyone is helping and think that the Prime Minister is very kind for seeing all my hard work.”

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community.
