Preston Young Litter-Picking Champion

1852. Jayden Eccles-Walton

Jayden Eccles-Walton, aged 5, from Preston, is a young environmentalist who uses his spare time to organise litter picks in his local area, bringing along his family and regularly taking part in Preston City Council’s clean-up days.

Jayden was inspired to start litter-picking in his local area out of concern for local wildlife and the impact of discarded rubbish on the environment. Known locally as one of Preston City Council’s youngest litter pickers, Jayden clears up local play parks alongside his mum, Michelle.

In a personal letter to Jayden, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“You are a true local hero, making your local parks and countryside cleaner and greener. I know you were inspired to start your litter picks by a love of animals and a desire to keep the countryside free of harmful glass and plastic. I am so impressed by what you do.”

Michelle said:

“I am so proud of my son, he amazes me all the time. He wants the world full of kindness. He loves the earth so much and it’s very important to him that places are safe.”
