President’s Sporting Club

698. Mike Jackson

A charity founder from Bishop's Stortford is bringing the benefits of sport to young people with disabilities.

Mike Jackson MBE founded the President’s Sporting Club, a sports foundation that helps young people with disabilities experience the benefits of playing sports. The Club has so far raised over £2m, and uses this to run sports events for thousands of children with disabilities each year, while also distributing funds to schools and sports organisations for specialist equipment and coaching.

To date, over 30,000 young people have attended the Club’s sports events, and two of the Club’s alumni have gone on to win Paralympic medals.

In a personal letter to Mike, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“The President’s Sporting Club is making a real difference to the lives of young disabled people, by giving them the chance to take part in sports and providing all the benefits that can bring.”

Mike said:

“I am absolutely delighted and honoured that our efforts to provide sporting opportunities and facilities for children with special needs has been recognised.”
