Nail Transphobia

936. Charlie Craggs

Charlie Craggs, aged 24 from London, is starting conversations about transgender issues over free manicures.

10 Downing Street

Charlie’s ‘Nail Transphobia’ campaign gives members of the public, who may never have met a transgender person before, an open and honest environment where they can ask any questions they have. Traveling all around the UK with her pop up nail salon, Charlie visits museums, galleries, and festivals and has given thousands of free manicures creating hundreds of trans allies outside of the LGBT community.

In a personal letter to Charlie, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“Your innovative ‘Nail Transphobia’ campaign is educating hundreds of people about transgender issues by creating a dialogue over a free manicure. This opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation is challenging prejudices and misconceptions and bringing people together.”

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community.
