Helping vulnerable people across the North West

2066. Sahil Usman

Sahil Usman, aged 17, from Blackburn, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2018 but despite his treatment has been dedicated to distributing hundreds of support packages to other children with cancer in hospital.

During the pandemic, Sahil wanted to help the vulnerable people who were unable to buy any essentials, so made and distributed 300 hampers across Blackburn.  He has also led cancer awareness presentations in over 150 schools, colleges, and universities in the North West and uses a regular feature on a local radio station to share his experiences of living with cancer.

Sahil’s service to his community was recognised in May with an invitation to attend HM The King’s Coronation.

Sahil said:

“I am extremely delighted to have been awarded the points of light award by the Prime Minister, it is a great honour to have the work I have done for my community to be recognised.”

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community.
