Judah Suimae, representing the Solomon Islands, is the co-founder of ‘Friends of the City’, a volunteer initiative which has brought together hundreds of people to participate in clean-ups across the capital city of Honiara and raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy and sustainable local environments.

Judah coordinates an army of volunteers, of all ages, gender and ethnicities, to work together cleaning up beaches, streets, stadiums and rivers, promoting a green, clean and safe capital city. ‘Friends of the City’ has worked with the government on their ‘Battle against Plastic Pollution campaign’, organising and participating in clean-ups across the city on ‘World of Environment Day’, ‘World Ocean Day’ and ‘Coral Triangle Day’.

Judah was presented with his award by Acting UK High Commissioner in the Solomon Islands, Paul Dryden (pictured below).

Judah said:

“I’m grateful and humbled to receive this award on behalf of the people of the Solomon Islands. I’m convinced that taking care of the environment is not just about cleanliness but a noble responsibility and duty of mankind, mandated by Divinity.”
