The idea came to Hilary while fundraising following the Christchurch earthquake in 2010, where she met fellow Kiwi volunteers full of interesting personal experiences and stories. The production for the first series, set in London, has already started and Hilary hopes to take the project to the US and Asia to profile Kiwis living around the world. The series will feature individuals from New Zealand including a fashion designer, celebrity hairdresser and opera singer. Hilary is also looking to promote the series in New Zealand in order to inspire others to reach for their dreams.

Hilary’s award coincides with the visit to the UK of the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern.

In a personal letter to Hilary, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“Your ‘Dream Catchers’ project is an innovative way of showcasing the success of New Zealanders across the globe. You should be very proud of your work to inspire and educate others through storytelling and I wish you every success as the project progresses.”

Hilary said:

“It is very humbling to be chosen as a Point of Light recipient and the recognition for ‘Dream Catchers’ and all those who have been involved in the series is a great honour. This will help elevate our mission to inspire our young people to live their dreams and celebrate the incredible contributions New Zealanders are making here in the United Kingdom and around the world.”
