Jon, who runs ‘Unit One Entertainment’ company and is also known as Jonny Spangles, has been making use of his very own “party trike”, a four-wheeled bike equipped with speakers, to bring music to the streets and lift the spirits of his community. Since March 2020, he has raised nearly £45,000 for charities supporting vulnerable people and key workers in Manchester.

In a personal letter to Jon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“Thank you for your fantastic efforts to lift the spirits of your local community through this pandemic. Throughout last year, your mobile parties and doorstep discos delighted local families while raising tens of thousands of pounds for NHS charities.

“We all look forward to a time when DJ Jonny Spangles will return in person. Until then, your virtual activities will keep families entertained in a Covid secure way.”

Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, said:

“Jonny Spangles’ performances give great pleasure to Trafford residents and friends, and I congratulate him on this award.”

Jon said:

“Completely and utterly speechless. If I didn’t have the love & support from my family, friends and the amazing people of Urmston, then receiving an award like this would never be possible. I am truly humbled and feel totally overwhelmed with everything in these difficult times for our country. Making people smile in these difficult times is why we do what we do and if we can support the less than fortunate people in our community, we have made a difference.”

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community.
