British Asian Radio

1657. Sabir Hussain

Sabir Hussain, from West Yorkshire, is an award-winning music producer and founder of ‘British Asian Radio’ which gives young people, from deprived areas in particular, a chance to showcase their musical talents via an online platform.

The venture is the first of its kind in the UK and Sabir has worked alongside the West Yorkshire Police on the project, in the hope it will divert youngsters away from crime.

In response to receiving the award, Sabir said:

“Thank you so much for awarding me as the UK’s 1657th Point of Light. Since March 2020, I wanted to use my skills and knowledge over the past 25 years in Arts and Media to set up ‘British Asian Radio’ with my family, helping young people across the UK promote their new music and get them away from crime; as well as helping West Yorkshire Police with gang violence awareness in the local community.

I have always supported Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s image of using Creative Arts to help people from deprived areas, and it is an honour to receive this award.

My family has over 300 years of musical history, dating back to the British Raj of India, and it’s a great experience to have that creative knowledge to help young people.

For the past 25 years in Arts and Media, I have worked alongside many A-List Musicians and Artists like The Black Eyes Peas, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, and Akon to make new workshops to help young people out of poverty by using music as a platform. I hope to keep using ‘British Asian Radio’ to help young and disabled people achieve their dreams.

Thank you once again for selecting me for this award.”
