Buddy’s For Children With Autism
1272. Jane Lord
Jane Lord, from Lancashire, is the founder of ‘Buddy’s for Children with Autism’, which tackles social isolation by providing a café, shop and sensory garden where families and children with autism can meet and make friends.
Young people can also engage in the skill-building sessions Jane and the charity run, specially designed to increase their employability and help them with further integration into society.
In a personal letter to Jane, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“I know you do this with no thought of praise or reward, but allow me to offer my own recognition of how through ‘Buddy’s for Children with Autism’ you have created a unique space for families and children with autism to meet up, make friends and feel part of their community.”
Jane said:
“I am super overwhelmed at being recognised for the Points of Light Award, though I can’t be singled out as it’s a group effort from all our volunteers at Buddy’s who have given so much over the years. I am the person I am today because of the effort of all our volunteers, we all love the work we do at Buddy’s and Autism in general.”
